Duravit

The tradition of the Duravit brand

‘This producer from Austria makes many high-quality shower enclosures’

The tradition of the Duravit brand, itself a company that has earned its spurs with its centuries of tradition, once “started small”. It all started in Hornberg, Germany in 1817 when Georg Friedrich Horn built a pottery factory that initially focused exclusively on the manufacture of tableware. In 1956, production evolved from earthenware to porcelain, expanding the product range with sanitary ceramics. This provided a platform for future success and also introduced the sanitary world under a new name: Duravit.

Natural elements

Today, Duravit AG operates on an international level and has 12 production sites with a workforce of more than 6,469 employees worldwide. The region behind the Duravit brand, a source of Duravit’s immense strength, which it continues to cultivate, is its deep connection to the Black Forest. That is why Duravit, for example, is a partner and sponsor of the Black Forest Nature Park, a large nature reserve that is also the largest nature park in Germany. In addition, Duravit is committed to protecting natural elements such as water, air and soil – a process that starts with resource-conserving production methods, using technologies such as water treatment and heat recovery.

Duravit and the environment

The logical consequence of this is reflected in the products themselves, which are water-saving. Even with new products, Duravit has an impact on the environment and ensures that whatever it makes, it uses natural resources responsibly. And these efforts were certainly recognised: Duravit AG is officially certified for its commitment to the environment in accordance with ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and PE.
