Quooker
The kitchentap that can do it all
100 °C boiling, chilled and sparkling water
Quooker is a family business, built on enthusiasm and entrepreneurship. The pride in Henri Peteri, father of Quooker directors Walter and Niels Peteri and inventor of the boiling water tap, can still be felt there. The story of Quooker started in 1970. Henri Peteri from Rotterdam worked for Unilever and was at the head office in London when he got an inspiration that would change his life forever. It was during a presentation about instant soup. It was shown how to dissolve soup in boiling water in just five seconds. ‘And that needs water that has to be on the fire for five minutes?’ thought Peteri, ‘What madness! Why don’t boiled water come out of the mixer tap in our houses?!’ Once home, Peteri dived into the basement to develop a prototype of the world’s first boiling water tap. That cost a lot of time and money. But when the first model was available, Peteri sold it to friends and acquaintances, who were very enthusiastic. Once you had a Quooker, you couldn’t live without it.

When son Niels completed his studies and joined his father, the idea became a product. The first Quooker (‘quick cooker’) was introduced in 1992, the Quooker Basic. From the moment son Walter joined the company, Quooker slowly but surely started to gain ground on the market. From 2000 things really started to go well. The boiling water tap caught on in the Netherlands. In 2004, the first batch of Quookers was exported abroad.
Very first tap with boiling water!
The Quooker was the very first boiling water tap in the world. Inventions such as the high-vacuum insulated reservoir, the all-in-one taps Quooker Fusion and Flex and the series of black boiling-water taps revolutionized the kitchen. We continue to innovate ‘around the sink’ every day.
Low power consumption (10 watts)
Anyone who needs boiling water several times a day does not use more energy with a Quooker than with a kettle. The secret to our low energy consumption is under the sink. Let’s explain that.
That’s right. To provide an average household with instant boiling water at any time of the day, the Quooker keeps 3 or 7 liters of water at a temperature of 110°C. This is done in a reservoir under the sink, which is vacuum insulated. This means that the air in the reservoir becomes so thin that the heat has nowhere to go. As a result, a Quooker only needs very little energy (10 watts) to keep the water in the reservoir above the boiling point.
For comparison: a low-energy light bulb consumes 11 watts, an average television three times as much. Although a kettle has no ‘keep warm’ costs, those who need boiling water several times a day probably use less energy with a Quooker than with a kettle. Because in a kettle you almost always bring much more water to the boil than necessary, while you can adjust the quantities very precisely with a Quooker.
